Healthcare sales down in Philips' Q2

Fewer sales in its Clinical Care Systems, Healthcare Informatics, and Imaging Systems units resulted in a 5% decline in comparable sales for Philips Healthcare of Andover, MA, in its second quarter (end-June 30).

Sales totaled 1.87 billion euros ($2.62 billion U.S.), compared with 1.8 billion euros ($2.52 billion U.S.) in the second quarter of 2008. Healthcare earnings before interest, taxes, and amortization (EBITA) amounted to 158 million euros ($221 million U.S.) in the second quarter, compared with 128 million euros ($179.4 million U.S.) in the same quarter a year ago.

In quarterly developments, a decrease in North American orders was partly offset by solid growth in other sectors, particularly emerging markets, Philips said. Declines were mainly experienced at Imaging Systems and Clinical Care Systems.
