GE Healthcare of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K., announced that Toronto will be the first location for a global pathology imaging center to be established with its digital pathology joint venture Omnyx of Pittsburgh.
GE and Omnyx, a joint venture between GE and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, will invest $7.75 million ($7.75 million U.S.). The Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation's Health Technology and Commercialization Program will contribute a grant of $2.25 million ($2.25 million U.S.), and collaborative research and development partnerships are expected to add $7.2 million ($7.2 million U.S.), for a total investment of $17.2 million ($17.2 million U.S.) over the next three years.
Scheduled to open in several months, the center is expected to create 15 new innovation-related jobs.
