Growth in imaging equipment orders contributed to an increase in comparable, currency-adjusted sales for Philips Healthcare in its second quarter.
For the period (end-June 30), Philips reported sales of 2.08 billion euros ($2.91 billion U.S.), up 8% on a comparable basis and 1% on a nominal basis compared to 2.07 billion euros ($2.89 billion U.S.) in the second quarter of 2010. Earnings before interest, taxes, and amortization (EBITA) increased to 276 million euros ($386 million U.S.), from 216 million euros ($302.4 million U.S.) in the same quarter a year ago.
In quarterly highlights, Philips had a 4% increase in currency-comparable equipment order intake. The company's imaging systems unit produced equipment order growth, while orders were lower in its patient care and clinical informatics segments.
Equipment orders were up 10% in North America but were down 4% in markets outside of North America. However, growth-market equipment orders climbed 5%, Philips said.
Solid comparable sales increases were turned in for all businesses, highlighted by high single-digit growth in its home healthcare and imaging systems segments, Philips said.
