Gene Saragnese is retiring on May 1 as head of the medical imaging business at Philips Healthcare and will be replaced by former Hologic chief executive Robert Cascella.
Cascella has 30 years of experience in healthcare, including 10 years at Hologic, which he left in 2013. He will be CEO of the company's diagnostic imaging business group, which includes its MRI, CT, PET, and x-ray operations, and will also hold the title of executive vice president at Royal Philips, the parent company of Philips Healthcare.
Cascella will also oversee the other two business groups in the imaging division: image-guided therapy, which includes the Volcano business that Philips recently acquired, and ultrasound. Cascella will be based in Andover, MA, and Amsterdam and will report directly to Frans van Houten, CEO of Royal Philips.
