Varian Medical Systems spin-off Varex Imaging completed its previously announced acquisition of the medical imaging business of PerkinElmer for $276 million in cash, subject to after-closing adjustments.
The acquired business develops, manufactures, and sells digital detectors used in medical and industrial x-ray imaging systems. It is headquartered in Santa Clara, CA, and has operations in Germany, the Netherlands, and the U.K., with approximately 280 employees.
The acquisition is expected to add approximately $140 million in annual sales for Varex.
Brian Giambattista, PhD, will head Varex's combined imaging detector business. Giambattista has served as president of the PerkinElmer Medical Imaging business since 2008. He has nearly 30 years of experience in the industry, having held various management and engineering roles at PerkinElmer and GE.
Rick Colbeth, who led the Varex business prior to completion of the acquisition, will become Varex's senior vice president of engineering for x-ray detectors.
