Healthcare Administrative Partners (HAP) said it will present at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's (IHI) upcoming 2017 National Forum on Quality Improvement in Healthcare on how analytics helped a customer improve the follow-up of lung nodule recommendations in radiology reports.
As one of the IHI's storyboard presenters, HAP Chief Clinical Informatics Officer Sharon Taylor will discuss the patient care gap that inspired the process improvement, the development challenges overcome during beta testing with the physicians of Radiology Group of Abington (RGA) in Lansdale, PA, and the quantifiable improvements in patient outcomes realized after live deployment, according to HAP.
The company said it worked closely with Dr. Philip Lim and his colleagues at RGA to develop a custom software application and business process for radiology practitioners that performs data mining and identifies patients with incidental lung nodules that need follow-up. Patients and their primary care physicians are then notified -- at condition-specific intervals -- of the need for follow-up, and the efficacy of the process is measured via executed screenings and captured patient condition status, HAP said.
After implementing the integrated analytics and communication process, RGA more than doubled the prior rate of patient follow-ups -- well-surpassing industry benchmarks -- while adding a care coordination component that was missing for an at-risk patient population, Lim said in a statement.
Taylor will present the work during the event's Storyboard Reception on Tuesday, December 12, in Orlando, FL.
