The American College of Radiology Foundation (ACRF) has named Dr. Michael Nelson of Minnetonka, MN, as the 2018 recipient of its Global Humanitarian Award.
Over a 25-year period, Nelson has trained more than 100 assistant medical officers and radiology residents in Tanzania, according to the ACRF. In addition to serving on the East Africa Medical Assistance Foundation and Foundation for Cancer Care boards in Tanzania, Nelson also led a four-year effort to raise funds and coordinate efforts with local and national governments, the Atomic Energy Commission, multiple hospitals, and fundraising sources to bring a comprehensive cancer center to northern Tanzania, the ACRF said.
