GE Healthcare has debuted an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm to help clinicians assess endotracheal tube (ETT) placement on chest x-ray images.

ETT is necessary when performing mechanical ventilation in patients critically ill with COVID-19 and other conditions requiring intensive care unit treatment. The Critical Care Suite 2.0 tools automatically detect and measure ETT position within seconds, displaying information on the x-ray system monitor. The measurements and image overlay are also available in PACS.

The AI tool is one of the five algorithms that comprise GE Critical Care Suite 2.0. The algorithms are embedded on a mobile x-ray device and aid clinicians with automated measurements, case prioritization, and quality control, the company noted.
