Radiology could take an up to 4% reimbursement reduction under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS) proposed rule for the 2024 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS).
In an analysis, the American College of Radiology (ACR) outlined how the proposed rule could impact radiology.
The 2024 MPFS conversion factor would be 3.4% below the 2023 conversion factor, with 2% of that based on budget neutrality changes -- including the implementation of G2211, a code that would be billed with office and outpatient evaluation and management codes and relative value unit changes -- and an additional 1.25% based on the difference between a 2023 congressional adjustment and the 2024 congressional adjustment, according to the ACR.
"The ACR estimates that without further congressional action, the reduction to diagnostic radiology will be approximately 4%, although as stated previously, the cut to any specific practice will vary based on types and volumes of codes billed," the college said in a July 28 statement.
