2003 05 06 12 01 10 706 A total of 6,635 CT scanners were installed in the U.S. as of mid-2001, according to an IMV census.

The number of CT scanners installed per site tended to reflect the size of the institution. A slim majority of large hospitals (400 beds or more) reported having more than two scanners (51%), while 34% of respondents in this segment reported owning three or more scanners.

Among hospitals with 200-399 beds, 58% reported owning one scanner, with 37% owning two systems and 5% three or more. Facilities with less than 200 beds and nonhospital sites overwhelmingly reported owning just one scanner.
