Barbara Louise Carter, MD, a radiologist who worked for 45 years at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, recently celebrated her 100th birthday at a local retirement residence.
Born December 29, 1925, Carter specialized in head and neck radiology and was among the first physicians in the country to work with an image intensifier in the early days of x-ray technology, according to a report in news outlet wickedlocal.com. She later used the first functioning CT body scanner in Massachusetts and was an early adopter of MRI technology, the story noted.
According to the American Society of Head and Neck Radiology, which presented Carter with its Gold Medal Award in 2003, among Carter’s accomplishments were developing and popularizing the applications of CT to the salivary glands, including CT sialography, in the late 1970s.
Carter celebrated the birthday with friends, family, and even former patients at The Residence at Vinnin Square in Swampscott, noted itemlive.com.
