Yale names new radiology department chair

The Yale School of Medicine has named Christopher Whitlow, MD, PhD, as the new chair of its Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging and assistant dean for Translational Research.

Whitlow will also have roles as chief of radiology at Yale New Haven Hospital and radiologist-in-chief across Yale New Haven Health System. These appointments become effective on October 20, pending approval by Yale Corporation and the Yale New Haven Health Board of Trustees.

Whitlow is currently the Isadore Meschan Distinguished Professor of Radiology and enterprise chair of Radiology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He is also the founder and director of the Radiology Informatics and Imaging Processing Lab, director of the Translational Imaging Program, and director of the combined MD/PhD program at Wake Forest.

Whitlow is a clinical neuroradiologist whose work also focuses on graph theoretical network methods and AI/deep learning.

He was president of the American Society of Functional Neuroradiology from 2023 to 2024 and currently serves on committees of the RSNA, American College of Radiology (ACR), and the American Society of Neuroradiology.

Whitlow earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from East Carolina University, a medical degree and doctor of philosophy at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, and a master of healthcare administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
