Radiology benefits management firm CareCore National has added Radiation Awareness Protocols to its clinical prior authorization and notification programs.
Designed to protect patients from excess radiation exposure from diagnostic testing, the programs alert physicians to the number of prior imaging scans their patients have received, according to the company. Precautionary alerts are provided in real-time while referring physicians are obtaining prior authorization or notification, CareCore said.
The protocol utilizes EMC's GreenPlum data retrieval technology to compile and analyze studies previously approved for individual patients within CareCore's database, according to the firm.
