CMS invites feedback on two MIPS value pathways

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has asked for comments from the radiology community in relation to its proposed diagnostic radiology and interventional radiology Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) Value Pathways (MVPs).

The CMS has begun transitioning from participation in traditional MIPS to MVPs. The two radiology-specific MVPs are among six that the CMS released December 11 across multiple specialties and that are being considered for 2026 rulemaking, according to the American College of Radiology (ACR).

"Since the introduction of the MVP concept by CMS and as it has progressed, ACR member leaders and staff have discussed how the MVP Framework could be best applied to capture radiologists' care quality and value," the ACR said in an October 29 letter with feedback on the candidate diagnostic radiology MVP.

The ACR noted that the proposed diagnostic radiology MVP includes certain measures that are not applicable or feasible for practices. ACR developed its own version of that MVP. More importantly, perhaps, the ACR plans to develop new quality measures when appropriate and submit them to the CMS' annual call for measures.

Comments for the first two candidates close January 24. Those wishing to get involved can find more information in ACR's December 19 bulletin.
