The ongoing shortage of radiologists is having an impact on salaries in the specialty, with average salary offers to radiologists growing 11% this year, according to physician search firm Merritt, Hawkins & Associates of Irving, TX.
The average salary offer made to recruit radiologists grew from $286,000 in 2002 to $317,000 this year, according to the firm’s 2003 Review of Physician Recruiting Incentives. What’s more, over the last four years average recruiting offers have grown by 41%.
Demand for all types of specialists has been rising, with radiologists among the most wanted. The demand is being driven by an aging population and a static supply of physicians, according to the company. Meanwhile, the demand for primary-care physicians is not as strong, as the supply of primary-care doctors has grown in recent years.
