Recruiting market brightens for radiologists

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

Healthcare providers are showing more interest in hiring radiologists after two years of declines in the number of search assignments for imaging specialists, according to a prominent medical recruiting firm.

The survey by Merritt, Hawkins & Associates of Irving, TX, found that the number of search assignments that the firm received for radiologists grew 8% during the 2004/2005 survey period, after falling 14% in 2003/2004 and 10% in 2002/2003. We're featuring an article on the survey in our Imaging Center Digital Community.

Even with the recent declines, however, radiologists remain among the most sought-after specialists in medicine: Only cardiologists generated more search assignments at the firm, according to the survey.

There's good news on the income front too. The average salary offered to radiologists by Merritt, Hawkins clients was $355,000, exceeded only by average offers extended to neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons.
