AuntMinnie.com Imaging Center Radiology Insider

Dear Imaging Center Insider,

No one disputes the fact that diagnostic imaging utilization in the U.S. has exploded over the past seven years. So much so, in fact, that many nonradiologist entrepreneurs, hospitals, and private radiology practices have leapt into the imaging center market in an effort to capitalize on this growth.

Although the stories of physicians striking it rich in this market are thought by most to be the archetype, many groups are still struggling to fill the capacity of the modalities in place at their facilities, said Patricia Raskind, president of market research and consulting firm HealthIntell.

The key success element of any diagnostic imaging service business is the referral physician, she noted.

If an imaging center practice plans to succeed in a competitive market growing ever-more crowded, it must foster relationships with its referrers, bring value to the relationships, and engender loyalty with its referral base, according to Raskind.
