SalaryScan: Breast imaging pays well for radiologists

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

Radiologists who specialize in mammography are earning the highest salaries in medical imaging, according to newly released results from AuntMinnie.com's SalaryScan survey of compensation and benefits in medical imaging.

Mammography specialists who responded to the SalaryScan survey earned an average base salary of over $400,000, which not only topped all other imaging specialists, but also marked the first time any SalaryScan demographic has cracked the 400K mark.

The milestone is all the more surprising given the relative unpopularity of mammography among many radiologists. Low reimbursement, high liability risk, and growing regulatory requirements have prompted many radiologists to shun mammography.

Could mammography's reputation be creating a scarcity of breast imaging specialists that's leading to higher salaries for those who are left? Get more details by clicking here.

SalaryScan also includes results for other medical imaging professions, such as radiologic technologists. The survey found strong growth in overall RT salaries, with average base salaries growing 7% over the previous year's SalaryScan results.
