The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued the 2008 Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (HOPPS) proposed rule.
The proposed rule updates the HOPPS effective for services performed during calendar 2008 for Medicare recipients, and includes proposed payment changes for services in hospital outpatient departments. It also includes provisions that would encourage higher-quality care through the reporting of quality measures.
In addition, the proposed rule includes calendar 2008 payment rates for services performed in ambulatory surgical centers.
