Florida radiology group loses hospital contract

A radiology group that has served at Florida Hospital of Altamonte Springs since 1968 has lost its contract, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The group serves seven Florida Hospital campuses, as well as five of the hospital's outpatient offices.

Contract negotiations between Florida Hospital and Florida Radiology Associates (FRA), a 47-physician practice also in Altamonte Springs, broke down late last year, and the current contract expires June 3. According to the Sentinel, FRA claims that under its contract with Florida Hospital its workload has increased beyond what its members are being paid.

On March 31, the group notified the state that it plans to lay off 49 employees in May, filing a letter under Florida's Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.

Florida Hospital has said that it will engage another radiology group to supply exclusive services starting June 4.

Representatives from both FRA and Florida Hospital were unavailable for comment.
