GE gives mobile medical unit to 2010 Olympics

GE Healthcare of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K., will provide a mobile medical unit for medical emergencies for athletes during the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver, British Columbia.

During the games, the GE mobile medical unit will work within the security perimeter of the Olympic and Paralympic Village Whistler as an extension of the onsite polyclinic center, and it will be staffed around the clock with doctors, specialists, and nurses.

The unit will provide access to diagnostic and patient monitoring equipment, in addition to a surgical area for emergencies.

The $4.5 million (U.S.) mobile medical unit is funded through the sponsorship agreement parent company General Electric of Stamford, CT, has with the Vancouver Olympic Committee.
