The Great Recession and radiology salaries; malpractice risk and communication

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

Has the Great Recession taken a bite out of salaries for radiology professionals? Or has the prospect of healthcare reform had a bigger impact? Or have salaries remained stable?

Those are all questions you can help answer by participating in this year's SalaryScan survey. SalaryScan gives you a way to research your compensation package to see how it compares to others in the industry with similar professions.

Our survey consists of a short list of questions on wages and benefits for a variety of professions in medical imaging. We then take the data submitted by thousands of AuntMinnie.com members and compile it into an interactive online tool that you can use to discover employment trends.

What's more, we'll be giving away one of Apple's coveted new iPad tablet computers to one lucky AuntMinnie.com member who fills out the SalaryScan survey in its entirety (and also submits his or her contact information). If you'd rather participate under the radar, that's fine too -- SalaryScan accepts anonymous entries as well.

Malpractice risk and communication

In other news, associate editor Kate Madden Yee addresses the thorny issue of malpractice in radiology in our Imaging Center Digital Community.

The story is based on a recent presentation by Dr. Leonard Berlin of Rush University Medical College in Chicago, in which Dr. Berlin stated his belief that many situations that lead to malpractice litigation could be avoided through better communication.

In fact, 80% of malpractice lawsuits involve a failure to communicate, Berlin said. He offered a variety of tools and techniques that you can use to keep yourself out of court. Learn more by clicking here, or visit the community at centers.auntminnie.com.
