RT salaries resume growth; radiologists are making more, too

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

After several years of stagnation, salaries for radiologic technologists (RTs) in the U.S. are finally on the rise again.

That's according to the latest installment of SalaryScan, AuntMinnie.com's annual survey of wage and benefits plans for radiology professionals. Located in our Career Center, SalaryScan lets you see how your salary stacks up against those of your peers.

RTs in the U.S. saw their salaries rise in 2009 for the first time since 2006, indicating that the oversupply of technologists may be starting to ease. RTs in the U.S. Pacific region (Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, and Hawaii) reported the highest salaries, while on a subspecialization basis those in nuclear medicine/PET were the best compensated.

Radiologists also saw salary growth in 2009, continuing a trend seen in previous years. Interventional radiologists enjoyed the highest wages among imaging subspecialties, while radiologists in the U.S. West South Central region (Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana) were the best compensated on a regional basis.

In a new feature for SalaryScan this year, you can view salary results by organization type, enabling you to see how private-practice groups stack up against academic institutions, for example.

SalaryScan is based on data submitted by AuntMinnie.com members, and to that end we'd like to thank everyone who participated this year. As part of this year's survey we awarded an Apple iPad to one lucky SalaryScan participant -- we'd like to recognize Ka-Khy Tzé, MD, of Delaware, who received this year's prize!
