Dear AuntMinnie Member,
In breaking news today, state regulators in Colorado have closed down a whole-body scanning center that they claim was marketing "virtual physical" screening studies that allegedly weren't being read by radiologists.
The center, Heart Check America, operates in several states, but Colorado authorities moved in after hearing complaints from consumers who said they were pressured to buy 10-year scanning packages but then never got a diagnosis or follow-up. When regulators visited the center to check out the allegations, they found the business closed.
Heart Check America also operates scanning centers in other states -- it remains to be seen whether those facilities will be affected. Learn more by clicking here, or visit our Imaging Leaders Digital Community at leaders.auntminnie.com.
ISMRM news
In other news, features editor Wayne Forrest is in Montreal this week, reporting on the proceedings of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) for our MRI Digital Community.
His first story from the ISMRM show covers a presentation on the use of a blood-pool MR angiography (MRA) contrast agent for detecting additional problems in patients presenting with suspected peripheral arterial occlusive disease. MRA with the agent -- which persists in the blood longer than conventional contrast -- found additional disease such as thromboses that weren't visible at first-pass MRI.
