A bill that would restrict imaging self-referral is being considered by the Oregon Legislature.
SB 683 would not prohibit self-referral for CT, MRI, or radiation therapy services, but it would require doctors to disclose to patients any beneficial interests they might have for referring them to a particular imaging provider. Failure to disclose this information would be punishable by a fine of up to $5,000.
The legislation was introduced in the Oregon Senate in February and in the House of Representatives in April.
