Conn. lawmakers cut radiology payments

The Connecticut General Assembly is taking heat for adopting a budget that cuts radiology payments for Medicaid patients by $4.5 million.

According to a June 22 report from CTNewsJunkie, radiology professionals in Connecticut are warning that access to medical imaging could be jeopardized if reimbursement remains at perilously low rates. Some say the crisis could lead to mammogram reimbursement as low as $20 and chest x-ray payments as low as $6.

The crisis developed earlier this year as the assembly cut reimbursement as part of its annual budget. It later restored about $500,000 in funding for ultrasound scans of women with high-risk pregnancies, but left the rest of the cuts in place, according to the article.
