The journal Academic Radiology is highlighting the topic of overdiagnosis in imaging in its August issue; many of the articles were posted online June 19.
Dr. Saurabh Jha of the University of Pennsylvania is guest editor. Along with Jha, authors include Dr. Archie Bleyer of Oregon Health and Science University, Dr. Virginia Molleran of University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Dr. Tirath Patel of University of Toledo Medical Center, and Dr. H. Gilbert Welch of the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice.
The articles address the issue of overdiagnosis across a variety of conditions and modalities, including traumatic brain injury, mammography, PET for Alzheimer's dementia, subsegmental pulmonary embolism, and thyroid and lung cancer.
