The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has approved the American College of Radiology (ACR) as a provider of appropriate use criteria for advanced diagnostic imaging studies.
With the designation of the ACR as a qualified provider-led entity, providers of all specialties can use the ACR's appropriateness criteria to fulfill the impending Protecting Access to Medicare Act (PAMA) requirements, the ACR said. Under PAMA, physicians will need to consult appropriate use criteria as a condition for reimbursement before ordering advanced diagnostic imaging exams for Medicare patients.
Providers can access the criteria through the ACR's ACR Select web portal, which is licensed by the National Decision Support Company (NDSC).
