Senate ACA replacement plan falls short of needed votes

On July 25, U.S. Senate Republicans fell short of the votes needed to pass a plan to repeal and replace the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), according to a news report from the Hill.

Senators voted 43-57 against a measure that included the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA), as well as proposals from Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH), the Hill reported.

Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME), Bob Corker (R-TN), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Dean Heller (R-NV), Mike Lee (R-UT), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), and Rand Paul (R-KY) voted against the proposal, according to The Hill. No Democrats voted for it.

The failure of the measure doesn't prevent Senate Republicans from introducing another version of the BCRA, the article noted.
