The U.S. Congress passed a stopgap government funding bill on December 21 that will keep federal agencies open through January 19 and stave off cuts to Medicare, according to a Politico report.
The U.S. House of Representatives voted 231-188 to pass the bill, while the U.S. Senate passed it with a 66-32 vote.
The measure ensures for another month legal protections for young undocumented immigrants who are losing work permits after President Donald Trump repealed an Obama-era executive action, Politico said. It also includes money to continue the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) through March and waives automatic cuts to Medicare and other programs threatened by the deficit increase in HR 1, the Republican tax bill passed December 20.
