HIMSS, AHIMA launch security, privacy certification

The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) are collaborating to offer security and privacy certification programs.

AHIMA will offer the certified in healthcare privacy (CHP) certification, while HIMSS will provide the certified in healthcare security (CHS) certification. The groups said they will also jointly offer the certified in healthcare privacy and security credential (CHPS), a combined certification covering both disciplines.

AHIMA will begin administering the CHP examination in the fall of 2002, while HIMSS will begin conducting the CHS examination in February 2003 at its annual conference and exhibition. The CHPS exam will be offered in February 2003, according to the societies.
