Despite the lingering slowdown in the radiology industry, the RSNA's annual meeting in Chicago is still the largest medical conference in the U.S., according to data released this month by the Healthcare Convention and Exhibitors Association (HCEA).
The HCEA's tally of attendance at the 50 biggest medical meetings in 2011 found the RSNA meeting on top, with total attendance of 59,097 and professional attendance of 27,305. The next-best-attended medical meeting was the Greater New York Dental Meeting, with total attendance of 53,789 and professional attendance of 45,565.
Rounding out the top five U.S. meetings for attendance in 2011 according to HCEA are the following:
- FIME International Medical Exposition: Total attendance of 52,723, professional attendance of 38,249
- American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting: Total attendance of 31,800, professional attendance of 25,800
- Society for Neuroscience annual meeting: Total attendance of 31,500, professional attendance of 25,800
Other notable imaging-related meetings included the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual meeting, with total attendance of 31,293 and professional attendance of 14,643, and the American College of Cardiology scientific session, with total attendance of 19,759 and professional attendance of 12,980.
