The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the RSNA have established a strategic partnership to bolster diagnostic and medical imaging capabilities in underserved regions across the world.
Under the agreement – signed by Najat Mokhtar, deputy director general and head of the department of nuclear applications at the IAEA, and Mark G. Watson, RSNA executive director – the IAEA will leverage RSNA's network and resources to promote equitable access to high-quality radiology services in low and middle resource countries (LMRCs), notably through its Rays of Hope initiative.
Experts from the IAEA have projected that increased access to medical imaging worldwide over a 10-year period could avert 2.46 million deaths caused by 11 different cancers, thereby saving 54.92 million life years, the RSNA noted.
