Philips has issued a field safety notice for customers using MRI systems that still employ discontinued first-generation SENSE XL Torso coil units (1.5T and 3.0T).
These coils may undergo localized heating during a scan and there's a possibility of patient injury from excessive heat, according to the vendor. The issue affects approximately 1,050 units worldwide, Philips said in statement.
The notice follows a customer notification that went out earlier this month. The company also said it anticipates providing an update to customers regarding a projected correction by the end of 2024.
The first-generation SENSE XL Torso coil was discontinued in 2014; however, affected units may continue to be used in accordance with device instructions for use, as well as the notification letter, according to the firm.
