Radiologic technologists are making more money than they did in 2019, according to results from the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) Wage and Salary Survey 2022.
The average salary of a technologist rose by about 11% over the past three years and now averages $77,027. Though some major disciplines in radiologic technology saw greater gains than others, all saw increases since 2019.
Among major disciplines, radiographers experienced the largest average gains at nearly 13%, from a $57,865 average annual salary in 2019 to $65,246 in 2022. CT technologists followed with a nearly 12% increase, moving from a salary of $69,896 to $78,159.
Mammographers' wages saw a nearly 11% increase from $71,725 to $79,323, and radiation therapists experienced an approximate 8% increase from $89,159 to $96,650. MRI technologists saw their salaries increase by about 8% from $76,177 to $82,395, according to the results.
Nuclear medicine technologists and sonographers saw the lowest salaries increases at about 6%.
Region also plays a role in salary variations. On average, radiologic technologists working in California had the highest annual compensation at $114,123. Meanwhile, technologists in Nebraska earned the lowest base annual compensation at $54,894, according to the survey.
The ASRT sent questionnaires in February 2022 to practicing ASRT members in the U.S. with 10,775 radiologic technologists completing the surveys. The ASRT conducts the survey every three years and has captured longitudinal data since 2001.
