GE Healthcare has announced a two-year partnership with the Society of Radiography in Kenya (SORK) to bring at least 140 radiographers in Kenya up to date on the latest medical imaging technologies and techniques.
GE will host the training program at its Skills and Training Institute in Nairobi and also provide all of the relevant imaging machines, simulation software, content, and facilitators. The training will cover an array of topics, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, radiotherapy, and radiation safety.
The partnership arose in response to a growing demand for well-trained radiographers in Kenya, according to SORK. The training program will help improve the imaging capacity of the 1,400 radiographers in the country -- 90% of whom have not undergone certified specialty training.
"There is need to increase skillsets of healthcare workers, especially in radiography. ... The recent upsurge in radiography equipment install base and an upward shift in technology on the equipment has also widened the training gap," SORK Council President Kenneth Wangari said at the recent Radiographers Scientific Conference in Mombasa, according to a release from GE.
