The National Resident Matching Program is celebrating Match Day on March 18, with interventional radiology seeing many residency positions filled.
On Match Day, U.S. and international medical students learn which medical residency programs they have matched with and will train in. This year's Match Day included 47,675 registered applicants and a record 39,205 certified positions.
The program said this year's numbers are supported by the increase in the number of programs offering first-year (PGY-1) positions, 177 or 3.4%, in the match.
Interventional radiology was one of the specialties with 30 positions or more that filled all available positions. It also filled 92.9% with Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine seniors, one of only five specialties with 30 positions or more to fill over 90% with these seniors.-->
