The American Board of Radiology has outlined its new Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program in an article published simultaneously in multiple radiology journals.
The article is published in new issues of Radiology, RadioGraphics, Academic Radiology, American Journal of Roentgenology, and the Journal of the American College of Radiology.
The MOC program became a hot topic in recent months as the ABR began sending out letters to radiologists who passed the diagnostic radiology board exam in 2002 or later. The letters requested an initial $400 fee for enrollment in the MOC program, which won't be fully developed until later this year.
Prior to 2002, diagnostic radiology diplomates received lifetime certification by passing the boards. The ABR now issues certification good for 10 years, with renewal tied to participation in the MOC program.
While the journal article gives an overview of what will be in store for various ABR diplomates, the authors note that "further details will be developed as the process evolves."
