The American Board of Radiology's (ABR) board of trustees has approved Dr. Valerie Jackson as its next executive director, beginning July 1, 2014.
Jackson will succeed Dr. Gary Becker, who will retire on June 30, according to the organization.
An expert in breast imaging, Jackson is a professor of radiology and chair of the department of radiology and imaging sciences at Indiana University School of Medicine. She has been active in clinical work, education, and research in mammography, breast ultrasound, and interventional procedures of the breast, ABR said. She also has served as residency program director for Indiana University's radiology department.
Jackson has authored some 100 peer-reviewed articles and 20 books and book chapters, with an emphasis on breast imaging and radiologic education. She has been the principal investigator on many grant projects, including several focused on radiology education. An avid lecturer, she has given more than 300 scientific and educational presentations, ABR said.
Jackson has been an RSNA member since 1982, and she was RSNA's first vice president from 2008 to 2009.
Becker described Jackson as a "perfect choice" for the position, adding that his confidence in her abilities stems from having known Jackson for more than 35 years.
