Agilent unveils new multispecialty ultrasound scanner

CHICAGO - Agilent Technologies has expanded its multispecialty family of ultrasound scanners with the introduction of its Sonos 4500 Performance multispecialty system. Sonos 4500 is designed for a variety of ultrasound applications, including abdominal, ob/gyn, pediatric, small-parts, cardiac, and vascular imaging, according to the Andover, MA-based firm. Sonos 4500 joins ImagePoint Hx in Agilent’s multispecialty product line.

The scanner includes Agilent’s Fusion Imaging with Adaptive Power techniques as well as Ultraband transducers, which Agilent believes combine to provide excellent tissue texture, contrast resolution, and image quality. Multiple pairs of harmonic frequencies are available on selected Ultraband tranducers, a benefit in hard-to-image patients, according to Agilent.

Sonos 4500 also includes the firm’s Adaptive Color technology, which optimizes color and angio frequencies to ensure the best resolution and sensitivity, according to the firm. In addition, Adaptive Color uses digital processing technology to boost weak signals, enhancing the spectrum to make the waveforms more visible and improve performance for all applications, according to Agilent.

The scanner also includes Agilent’s trapezoidal linear array imaging, which the company claims adds up to 40% more image area than a standard linear image. This allows the clinician to view the entire thyroid, carotid bifurcation, or graft in a single image, according to the company. Trapezoidal linear array imaging is available on all linear transducers.
