SALT LAKE CITY - The opening session of this week's Symposium for Computer Applications in Radiology kicks off with a welcome by program committee chair Dr. Byrn Williamson, Jr., and SCAR chairman Dr. Michael Abiri.
The keynote address will be delivered by Russell Coile, Jr., senior vice president and national strategy advisor for Superior Consultant of Southfield, MI. In his talk, called "Medical Practice in the Millennium - A High-Technology Outlook", Coile will provide insight and perspective on the future of healthcare and radiology in the 21st century, according to SCAR.
SCAR's didactic educational curriculum, SCAR University, also gets underway Thursday morning, with introductory courses on digital imaging (CR/DR), electronic storage media, and teleradiology. More experienced SCAR U attendees can take in advanced courses on security, PACS administration, and workflow.
In the afternoon, SCAR U warms up with introductory courses on the economics of PACS, emerging technologies, purchasing a PACS, and medicolegal issues. Simultaneously, advanced courses in connectivity/networking, quality control, government initiatives, and speech recognition will be presented during the afternoon proceedings.
Also on tap for Thursday: a debate over the control of PACS, scientific papers covering digital practice planning and quality assurance, and an update on digital mammography. Thursday is capped by an opening reception in the exhibit hall.
