SALT LAKE CITY - Day two at SCAR features several PACS-related educational events. SCAR University expands to three sessions today, and guided exhibit hall tours and visits to local PACS installations begin.
In the morning SCAR U session, introductory courses will be held in the security, PACS administration, workflow, and connectivity/networking sections. Advanced courses will be presented in the digital imaging (CR/DR), electronic storage media, teleradiology, and economics of PACS tracks.
The early afternoon SCAR U session will include introductory courses on quality control, government initiatives, and speech recognition, as well as advanced presentations for the emerging technologies, purchasing a PACS, and medicolegal issues sections.
The first intermediate SCAR U courses (for digital imaging (CR/DR), electronic storage media, teleradiology, and economics of PACS) will be unveiled for the final SCAR U session of the day. Also on tap are graduate-level courses for the security, PACS administration, workflow, and connectivity/networking tracks.
New to the program this year, exhibit hall tours will allow attendees to participate on a tour of vendors offering products for a specific category, such as computer workstations or electronic archives. These tours will be guided by a PACS consultant.
As in previous years, attendees to SCAR will also be able to visit local institutions that employ digital image management. This year, LDS Hospital, Primary Children's Medical Center, and the University of Utah Health Science Center will be available for touring.
Remote interpretation of radiology studies by national networks of radiologists has long been a hot button issue for local radiologists. This topic will be the subject of a lunchtime debate today, called "Where should images be interpreted?"
Two scientific-paper tracks will be offered today: business and medico-legal issues, as well as image acquisition and processing. In addition, special sessions will be held on computer-aided diagnosis and image quality.
