Siemens Medical Solutions has installed its first Somatom Sensation 64 CT scanner in the U.S. The system was received by the Mayo Clinic's new CT Clinical Innovation Center in Rochester, MN.
Patient-oriented research at the new center will focus on quantification of normal and abnormal physiological function, early visualization of disease, difficult-to-image patients, and radiation dose reduction, according to the Malvern, PA-based vendor.
Siemens said that researchers will also look at the future role of 64-slice technology in routine clinical work, and hope to advance patient care in areas such as trauma imaging as well as cardiovascular and neurological applications.
