E-Z-EM has introduced VoLumen, a low-density barium sulfate suspension used as an oral contrast in multidetector CT (MDCT) and PET/CT studies. VoLumen is designed to overcome the limitations of water and higher-density positive oral contrasts currently used in these studies, according to the Lake Success, NY-based vendor.
VoLumen also allows for simultaneous MDCT investigation of all organs, vasculature, and surrounding structures of the abdominal/pelvic region, E-Z-EM said. It offers a low density of approximately 15-30 Hounsfield units, providing sufficient positive contrast to mark the anatomic structures of the bowel without masking pathology or underlying organs, according to the vendor.
