Contrast agent and virtual colonoscopy developer E-Z-EM of Lake Success, NY, has launched a new device for insufflating the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract with carbon dioxide gas.
The CO2Efficient Endoscopic Insufflator is based on the company's Protoco2L device, and is designed to adapt the use of CO2 gas insufflation to procedures such as colonoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and enteroscopy. E-Z-EM is exhibiting the device at this week's Digestive Disease Week conference in Los Angeles.
CO2Efficient is designed to attach to the endoscope's water bottle, and eliminates the need for a system of specialized CO2 air/water valves, regulators, and flow meters previously required for CO2 insufflation in endoscopy. The device also regulates the flow of CO2 gas, providing greater ease of use for the physician while minimizing CO2 waste, the company said.
