The Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging is holding a meeting on August 20 with CT vendors to discuss methods for standardizing radiation dose estimates in pediatric CT.
Participants at the summit, to be held at Cincinnati Children's Hospital in Ohio, will discuss methods for standardizing radiation dose estimation settings and display language for pediatric CT scanners. They will also discuss how vendors can provide education for technologists to promote better understanding of the steps required to safely perform CT scans on children.
The alliance was founded by the Society for Pediatric Radiology, the American College of Radiology (ACR), the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), and the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM).
The groups collaborated in the launch of the Image Gently campaign in January 2008; the August 20 meeting is the first formal step in the Image Gently effort to foster increased collaboration between providers and imaging manufacturers to produce scanners with common dose estimation settings and display language, the organizers said.
