Interventional technology developer AngioDynamics of Queensbury, NJ, has launched a new catheter for the treatment of cancer and peripheral vascular disease, the company reported.
Centros is a self-centering, tunneled hemodialysis access catheter that has a curved configuration that allows it to be placed in the superior vena cava in a centered position, without touching the vein walls. Rather than being placed in the atrium, the tip of the catheter is placed in the lower third of the superior vena cava.
AngioDynamics acquired exclusive worldwide rights to manufacture and market Centros from Ash Access Technology of Lafayette, ID. The catheter's designer, Dr. Stephen Ash, also invented the original split-tip dialysis catheter.
