Del loses personnel lawsuit

Del Global Technologies, the parent company of Del Medical Systems Group, said that a jury from the Circuit Court of Cook County in Illinois has ruled against the company in a lawsuit filed by a former employee.

Jeffrey Moeller sued Del Global Technologies, Del Medical Imaging, and former Del Medical President Walter Schneider in June 2002, alleging retaliatory discharge from his employment at Del Medical, defamation, and intentional interference with his employment relationship with Del Medical and prospective employers. Moeller also asked the court to hold the company liable for any misconduct of Del Medical under a theory of "piercing the corporate veil," according to Del of Franklin Park, IL.

On April 17, the Circuit Court jury returned a verdict in favor of Moeller for $1.8 million for lost earnings, back pay, front pay, and benefits on the retaliatory discharge claim. The jury also awarded $200,000 for emotional distress/reputation damages and $200,000 in punitive damages on the defamation claim.

Del Global Technology CEO James Risher said that the company intends to vigorously pursue available post-trial remedies, including appeal.
