Del's sales drop in Q3

A 10% drop in sales for Del Medical Systems Group produced a similar decline in net sales for parent company Del Global Technologies in the third quarter of fiscal 2008 (end-April 26).

Net sales for the Franklin Park, IL-based parent company fell to $24.4 million, compared with $27.1 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2007. Net sales for the Medical Systems Group decreased to $20.9 million, compared with $23.2 million in the prior year's third quarter. The company blamed the third-quarter sales decline on lower international sales volume and reduced sales of its digital x-ray line in the U.S.

Del Global also posted a net loss of $1.6 million in the quarter, compared with a net loss of $1.1 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2007.

For the nine-month period, net sales increased to $81.1 million, a gain of 10% over $73.2 million in the same period of fiscal 2007. The company's net income, however, slipped to $895,000, compared with net income of $1.6 million in the same period a year ago.
