Cortechs.ai and EDAP TMS, a robotic energy-based therapy developer, are highlighting the completion of what the companies are calling the world’s first OnQ Prostate-assisted Focal One Robotic high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) procedure.
The procedure took place on January 28 at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Prostate Center. This milestone marks the first clinical application of OnQ Prostate’s RSI technology to guide focal therapy, which also used advanced MR imaging to improve lesion localization and targeting for urologists performing focal therapy, Cortechs.ai and EDAP TMS said.
OnQ Prostate provides information about the tissue microstructure that can help urologists identify which patients are good candidates for focal therapy and which lesions should be targeted. It also integrates into focal therapy systems, allowing for real-time precision targeting during the procedure, according to the two firms.
